MAX3227EEAE+T

The MAX3227EEAE+T is a ±15KV ESD protected, 1µA, 1Mbps, RS232 transceiver with AutoShutdown Plus™ in 16 pin SSOP package. The device is 3V powered EIA/TIA-232 and V.28/V.24 communication interfaces with automatic shutdown/wakeup feature, high data rate capabilities and enhanced ESD protection. The transmitter output and receiver input are protected to ±15KV using IEC 1000-4-2 air-gap discharge, ±8KV using IEC 1000-4-2 contact discharge and ±15KV using human body model. The device automatically enters a low power shutdown mode when RS232 cable is disconnected or the transmitters of the connected peripherals are inactive. The UART driving transmitter inputs is inactive for more than30seconds, it turns on again when device sense a valid transition at any transmitter or receiver input. Typical applications include notebook, subnotebook, palmtop computers, cellular phones, peripherals, printers, battery powered and hand held equipments.

• READY output is low when charge pumps are disabled in shutdown mode, high when V- goes below -4V
• 3V to 5.5V supply voltage range, 150V/µs maximum transition region slew rate
• Operating temperature range from -40°C to 85°C
• Low dropout transmitter O/P stage enables RS232 performance from 3V-5.5V supply w/ dual charge pump
• Charge pump requires only four small 0.1µF capacitors for operation from a 3.3V supply
• 1µA supply current using Maxim’s revolutionary AutoShutdown Plus™ feature
• MegaBaud™ operation, 1Mbps for high speed applications such as communicating with ISDN modems
• AutoShutdown Plus™ saves power without changes to the existing BIOS or operating system
